Steve Landek is a notorious Democratic machine boss who served as State Senator, Bridgeview Mayor, and Lyons Township Democratic Committeemen all at once (1). Hoffenberg is allied with Landek and was recently caught on security camera sharing what seemed to be an after hours kiss with him, despite being married to another man (2). Landek is no stranger to political controversy; he has many stories about backroom political deals (3), scandals involving strip clubs (4), and has been cited as an example in publications about Illinois corruption (5). Is this the type of politics we want on the Cook County Board?
Pelko was once a known Democratic political operative in the Lyons Township area. Pelko was reported as a donor to Landek’s local Bridgeview Active Party (1) and volunteered to file a ballot challenge against Hoffenberg’s then Democratic Primary challenger. However, the plan fell apart when Pelko was soon after arrested for (2) and convicted of murder (3) as reported by WBEZ and NBC.

Campaign finance reports show that Hoffenberg was a supporter of candidates and organizations aligned with the defund the police movement (1), (2). She is also an affiliate of the radical progressive left group Indivisible which has also called to defund the police (3). Hoffenberg has donated to political groups that support Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson, who has promoted funding to organizations ran by convicted felons and former gang members (4). Hoffenberg is also supported by politicians who voted for the infamous SAFE-T Act that has put violent criminals back onto our streets (5), (6). We should wonder if this is why under her leadership on the Village of La Grange Police and Fire Board that the village police department was frequently understaffed and unable to find qualified candidates to become officers (7), (8).
